The 2011 Angus Armanasco Stakes will take place on Saturday February 26 at Caulfield Racecourse’s Blue Diamond Stakes Day, one of the major meetings of the annual Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.
A set weights race for three-year-old fillies, the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) has stakes set at $180,000 and is one of seven Group races at the Caulfield meet that’s headlined by the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) for two-year-olds.

Fillies contesting the 2011 Angus Armanasco Stakes have a number of earlier autumn races to use as a lead-up including the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 12 and the Group 3 The Mitty’s Vanity (1200m) at Flemington on February 19.
Following the Angus Armanasco Stakes, other autumn features the runners may continue onto include the Group 2 Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley on March 4, the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 12 or take on open company in a Group 1 race such as the Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 5.
Set For Fame, winner of the 2010 Angus Armanasco, went on to run second behind Rock Classic in the Australian Guineas while 2009 Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Gold Water backed up with a second place finish in the Kewney Stakes and later second to Purple in the Group 1 Storm Queen Stakes at Rosehill.
The 2011 BMW Angus Armanasco Stakes final field, which has a capacity of 16 starters, will be announced by February 23.
