On Saturday Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse hosted the coveted Blue Diamond Stakes Day that saw the Peter Moody-trained Set For Fame claim victory in the $180, 000 Group 2 BMW Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m).
Starting the race as the $2.50 favourite, Set For Fame defeated the Gai Waterhouse-trained Gigas ($16) by a long neck with David Hayes’ Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights ($7) finishing gallantly a half-length back for third.
Set For Fame and her jockey Luke Nolen came from the back of the field on the outside to gain the winning lead over the final few metres.
Set For Fame has a promising 50% winning strike rate having won three of her six career starts, with Moody now looking towards the Australian Guineas over 1600m on March 6 for the Reset filly.
Following her win on Saturday, Set For Fame now sits as the second favourite at $4.20 for the Guineas, behind Peter Snowden’s boom colt Denman the warm favourite at $1.45.
Denman also saw success at Caulfield on Saturday when he took out the Group 2 D’urban Stakes.
Set For Fame is looking set to follow in the footsteps of her triple Group 1 winning stablemate Typhoon Tracy, the improving filly sure to be the four-year-old mare to watch next season.
